Public Health Regional Surveillance Team 6 is one of seven teams in North Carolina that work with the state Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response to prepare for, respond to, and conduct surveillance for bioterrorism and other public health threats. PHRST 6 is based in the Buncombe County Health Center and serves the nineteen westernmost counties of North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The PHRSTs were founded in December 2001 by the NC Division of Public Health. Our team comprises a Physician-epidemiologist, and Industrial Hygienist-Environment Health Specialist, a Nurse-Epidemiologist, and Administrative/ GIS Specialist, 2 Regional Laboratory Specialists, a Veterinary Medical Response Specialist and a Regional Pharmacist.
